Description

WYRD is one of Finland’s oldest Pagan Black Metal bands. Formed in 1997, they have since released eleven full-length albums. Their sound has evolved over the years, ranging from mid-tempo, raw, and melodic Black Metal to a more doom-laden Death Metal approach, heavily influenced by early Katatonia. With WYRD, one can never be quite sure what to expect. Some consider their first three albums – rooted in traditional, mid-paced Pagan Black Metal – to be their finest work, while others favor the folk-infused atmosphere introduced on Rota, Kalivägi, and Hex.

One release that divided the fanbase was their ninth album, Death of the Sun. For the first time in the band’s history, Narqath did not handle vocals, and the choice of guest vocalists proved difficult for many longtime listeners. Musically, the album blended elements from every previous WYRD era while introducing new influences, including shades of NWOBHM.

Few are aware that an alternate demo version of Death of the Sun exists, with Narqath handling the vocals. This lost recording remained forgotten for nearly 17 years – until one plough February evening in 2025, when it resurfaced. One might say it was fate that it was found not in Narqath’s possession but in the vaults of Sacrifire Productions. Now restored and newly mastered, this version is set for release in April 2025 on limited cassette and digitally via Bandcamp and Ampwall – through Sacrifire Productions, of course.

Pro colored covers, black tapes with printed labels. Tape includes digital download coupon/link.
